You must register for the Weight Distance Tax if your vehicle has a declared gross vehicle weight over 26,000 lbs and will be used on New Mexico roads — whether interstate or intrastate.
2. Register for a Weight Distance Tax Permit
You must obtain a New Mexico Weight Distance Tax Electronic Permit for each qualifying vehicle every year:

Provide required details such as:

Vehicle information (VIN, declared weight)

Owner/carrier details

USDOT or FEIN

Submit your registration request.
Once approved, you’ll receive proof of registration which you should carry with the vehicle.
3. Annual Renewal and Quarterly Filing

The Weight Distance Tax permit must be renewed annually — by December 31 of each year.

After registering, carriers are also required to file quarterly weight-distance tax returns and pay the tax due based on miles traveled within New Mexico each quarter, which is being performed in your personal cabinet after registration ( link for your personal cabinet is being sent to your email address )
Quarterly due dates (for reporting travel miles and paying tax) generally fall on:
