You need a New Mexico Weight Distance Tax (WDT) permit when operating a commercial vehicle in New Mexico that meets any of these conditions:

  • The vehicle has a declared gross weight over 26,000 lbs

  • The truck has 3 or more axles

  • The vehicle transports placarded hazardous materials

The permit is required for both interstate and intrastate operations using New Mexico highways.
